The AgedAdvisor annual awards have been held every year for almost a decade now – celebrating the best-of-the-best in aged care and retirement and lifestyle villages across Aotearoa.

As the General Election approaches, key organisations involved in promoting healthy and respectful ageing and the wellbeing of older people in Aotearoa New Zealand are calling on all political parties to commit to the principles of the United Nation’s Decade of Healthy Ageing and to work collaboratively towards a society where all people can live long and healthy lives.

Retirement Commissioner Jane Wrightson was one of the key invited speakers who addressed the Grey Power Annual General Meeting in Wellington earlier this year. Wrightson, who was appointed in late 2022, cited the purpose statement for New Zealand’s retirement income system. The objective, she said, was to achieve a stable retirement income framework which enabled trust and confidence that older New Zealand residents could live with dignity and mana, participate and contribute to society.

The Retirement Commission, Te Ara Ahunga Ora  released a paper providing a simple description of New Zealand Superannuation to aid discussion of NZ Super. 

Pensioners are struggling to survive as inflation pushes the costs of essentials out of reach, forcing many to skip meals just to get by. Aotearoa is grappling with a cost of living crisis as mortgage rates, rents and food prices skyrocket - driven by inflation of 7.2 percent.
